Carlos Gurpegui
Carlos
Gurpegui was a spanish footballer who played both defensive midfield and
central defender.
He played his entire career in Athletic Club, team of which he was
captain between 2011 and 2016.
He was accused of doping after a league game in San Sebastián on
September 1, 2002. The punishment imposed for this situation was two years of
suspension, but because of some problems it was a bit longer. He was able to
play again on April 24, 2008 in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
Carlos Gurpegui tested positive for norandrosterone after the game that started the 2002/03 League in San Sebastian. The match ended 4-2 favorable to
the Donostiarras, although Gurpegui scored the two goals of his team.
As we can see, doping is not only related to cycling or endurance sports.
There are many cases in other sports such as football, for instance.
