In the XXI century we are witnesses of outstanding advances in the field of biomedical sciences and biotechnology. Nowadays, on the occasion of several spectacular scientific and medical advancements that allow the improvement of the physical performance of humans and consequently, of athletes, new and more sophisticated techniques of doping have been explored, and it is more difficult to detect them. As a result, we can see, on the one hand, the growing importance of sport reflected in all the areas, together with a parallel increase of the athlete’s aspiration to conquer higher goals and the use of fraudulent methods, and, on the other hand, the spectacular development of biomedicine, which has opened the doors to the so-called "gene doping" that is postulated to be the new and not so far protagonist in the sport scene. Therefore, WADA, being aware of this situation, has promoted the celebration of the Fourth Conference on gene doping, which took place last June in Beijing, and was aimed at finding new ways to detect this new form of doping, whose appearance is considered imminent.
