Paquillo Fernández
Paquillo Fernández is a Spanish ex-athlete who has a great track record
during his career.
Paquillo, who was once Olympic runner-up and three runner-up world 20 km
march, in addition to double European champion, stopped marching with 35 years old
and his image was completely ruined by Operation Grail. In February 2010 he
himself confessed having been in possession of forbidden substances.
The Civil Guard had registered his home and found doping products, among
them EPO (erythropoietin) vials and hormones. Paquillo denied, however, having
consumed such substances. He only admitted to being tempted to buy them for the
purpose of using them the following season, in view of their poor results at
the Beijing Games and the World Championships in Berlin. "Fortunately,
those products were never used," he said. The temptation to take that
substances was very strong.
